Cowichan. The Campbell. These Vancouver Island rivers light up the eyes
of every angler worth his or her salt. Fishing on Vancouver Island can
best be described with words like "variety", "quality", and
"accessibility". From Victoria in the south to Port Hardy in the north
and Tofino on the west coast, you are never more than a few minutes away
from incredible angling opportunities. Hundreds of lakes, streams and rivers offer steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and kokanee. To a lesser degree, anglers can go after introduced species like brown trout and smallmouth bass. Moderate temperatures mean many of the lakes and rivers never freeze, providing year-round angling, much of it easily accessible. Anglers are often amazed to discover trophy-sized rainbows and cutthroat trout and smallmouth bass can be caught within city limits. Those seeking wilderness experiences only have to travel to the nearest river estuary or hike into any of the hundreds of mountain lakes for some thrilling action. The more remote lakes and rivers are easily accessed by charter aircraft or boat. And don't forget the islands off Vancouver Island that offer incredible, seldom-fished lakes and rivers.
